- 2010 Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament

4, 2010
The
Panhandle Seminole Club held its 2010 Annual Scholarship Golf Tournament on
April 30, 2010 at the Indian Springs Golf Club in Marianna. Sixty-seven (67)
golfers participated and braved the weather to again help raise scholarship
funds for deserving local students to attend Florida State University. The
Club has awarded over $28,000 over the past seven (7) years to help support
the pursuit of higher education.
Results
of the tournament were:
First
place team: Terry Allen, Phil Register, Eddie Rodgers, Earl Armstrong;
Second
place team: Pete Klappas, Rob Eaton, Matt Melchior, Scott
Tharpe; and
Third
place team: Hunter Nolen, Dean Laramore, Jared Melvin, and Matt Milton.
Individual
accomplishments include:
Long
made putt (hole #1): Dave Daigle at 61 feet 9 inches,
Closest
to the pin (hole #5): Matt Melchior at 4 feet 6 inches,
Closest
to the pin (hole #8): Denis Ferguson at 3 feet 1.75 inches,

The

donation of those prizes which were awarded to the individual winners

April 30, 2010 at the beautiful Indian Springs Golf Club in Marianna.
Come join your friends and fellow Seminoles on the links for a great
afternoon of golf to again raise scholarship funds for local FSU
students. This tournament, along with another fund-raiser, has helped
provide $20,000 over the past five years to deserving local students and
help further their education.
Registration
and warm-up will begin at 12:00 Noon CST with the shotgun start at 1:00 PM
CST for this four-man scramble event. Cash prizes
will be awarded to the first, second, and third place teams! Additional prizes will be given for longest drive,
straightest drive, closest to the pin, and so on.
The
greens fee contribution of $65 will entitle each golfer to a fantastic
afternoon of golf on a championship course (to help a very worthy cause),
followed by a BBQ meal and football comments from former
Seminole Great Keith Jones, now an announcer on SunSports Network.
Scholarship

Panhandle Seminole Club’s Annual Kickoff Meeting and Awards Dinner
Thursday August 13, 2009 6:30 pm
The Panhandle Seminole Club will hold its
Annual Kickoff Meeting and Awards Dinner at the Marianna Women’s Club, 2902
Caledonia Street in downtown Marianna.
The guest speakers will be Dr. John Fogarty,
Dean of the College of Medicine and Clint Purvis, chaplain for the FSU football
team. Dr. Fogarty will discuss the Family Medicine and Rural Health Program and
Rev. Purvis will share his background insights with us on FSU football for this
fall.
The club will also introduce four (4) local
students who will be attending FSU this fall. Each student will be awarded a
$1000 scholarship coming from monies that were raised through several
fund-raisers supported by our local community. These scholarships bring the most
recent seven-year total to $28,000 in support of FSU students. This year’s
recipients are John Callahan, Chelsea Carroll, and Britt Dennis of Marianna, and
Anthony Garrett of Greenwood.
The meeting is open to all friends of FSU
with BBQ and all the trimmings provided by the club to all current members. The
cost will be $5 per person for non-members.
Smoked
Boston Butt Fund Raiser Occurring Now
These
scholarship funds are raised through the two major annual fundraisers: a spring
golf tournament and a fall smoked Boston Butt sale. The Boston Butts are
pre-sold during the month of August each year. This year, delivery is on
Thursday, September 3 from 1 to 6 PM at the Pelt Eye Clinic on Lafayette Street
(in time for Labor Day weekend). Invest $20 now and help send a student to
college. Obtain a ticket from any board member or at Sweet Stuff Bakery on
Jackson Street before August 28.

Boston Butt Sale to Raise Scholarship Funds
ONLY $20.00 EACH
The
Panhandle Seminole Boosters Club is currently pre-selling smoked Boston Butts
through August 21, 2008 to support their Annual Scholarship fund. These tasty
pork butts range from 8 to 10 pounds and will be ready for pick up in time for
Labor Day weekend (Thursday, August 28).
The
Club holds two annual events (spring golf tournament and the Boston Butt sale)
to raise scholarship funds and help local students to attend Florida State
University. The 2008 Award winners are
Melanie Sloan, Brandi Stephens, Matthew Chambliss and Nicole Long.
Each
student will receive a $1000 award from funds raised through these events in the
past year by the club, a registered 501©3 non-profit corporation.
Support
higher education for our local students and enjoy a fabulous smoked Boston Butt

a former Seminole lineman who played from 1986-89, is a play-by-play commentator
for Seminole baseball, as well as a host of the football pre-game show on Clear
Channel Radio. He will share his insight, knowledge and update us on FSU
football for this fall.
The club will also introduce four (4) local
students who will be attending FSU this fall. Each student will be awarded a
$1000 scholarship coming from monies that were raised through several
fund-raisers supported by our local community. These scholarships bring the most

participated on a beautiful, sunny afternoon to again raise
scholarship funds for deserving local FSU students. A highlight was
the cookout with our featured speaker, Dr. Bob LaCivita, the new
Director of Player Personnel for Florida State University football. He
spoke of the continuing changes that are occurring not only in FSU’s
recruiting strategy, but also in the NCAA guidelines. Results
